Compliance

California leads the nation with a 65% recycling rate for all materials.

In July 2012, Assembly Bill 341 went into effect. This state mandate is written to reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions by diverting commercial solid waste from the landfills through recycling efforts. AB 341 sets a recycle goal of 75% of solid waste by 2020, advancing the recycling guidelines set by AB 939 in 1989 and implemented via the Integrated Waste Management Act.

The new bill requires businesses that produce four cubic yards of waste or more weekly to be in compliance via recycling, reduction and composting.

Reduce Waste via Donation

Sustainable Surplus offers businesses a means to reduce their solid waste through donation.

We can provide you with a report measuring your diversion by category and weight, which you can use for reporting to your corresponding jurisdiction. This information helps your company meet its diversion rates, monitored by the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle).

What Our Donors Say

GE Water & Process Technologies

“At the General Electric Water and Process Technology plant here in Vista we choose to continue to work with Sustainable Surplus because it is the right thing to do for our community. Sustainable Surplus found meaningful uses for surplus furniture and equipment no longer required in our operation and in doing so supported a variety of valuable community organizations. Working with Sustainable Surplus has been easy and the support from the folks at Sustainable has made for a smooth and painless process.”

Nereus Pharmaceuticals

“We recently vacated a 30,000 square foot facility and we choose to donate to Sustainable Surplus because we wanted our supplies and furniture to go to a good cause and not be thrown into a landfill. Sustainable Surplus was able to donate a large amount of our furniture and supplies to schools and nonprofits and they also introduced us to furniture resellers and electronic recyclers. They really helped in making our move go smooth.”
